Update On Batch #1
It’s NOT contaminated!
I transferred to secondary on the 24th, and observed great clarity. The color is a little light. It’s not quite hobgobliny. More like a typical pale ale, and by pale ale I mean red not blond.
Perhaps if I get a 7 US Liquid Gallons pot one of these days I’ll try darkening it with a long boil. OR perhaps I’ll change the grains. That’s far in the future though.
I was overjoyed to taste nothing that made me think of moldy bread or a barn yard. It was overpoweringly fruity with acetaldehyde, but that will vanish as the beer continues to ferment. After sealing the carboy it didn’t take long for it to come to pressure, and it’s still going strong. In fact a new cap has formed, though loose and bubbly, like a sink full of dish detergent... except that it’s brown. (which my sink often is)--- The gravity at the time came out to 1.039. Probably I transferred to early. No big deal.
