THE RESULTS
With such a simple grain bill, I expected disaster, and I got it. It was a wild strike. First it was to hot, then to cold. After much fucking around with cold water and hot water, I got the mash stabilized at 66° Celsius.
As usual the sparge was not the best, but at that point I was just glad to have clarified the wort, rather than denatured the enzymes beyond use with that super hot start.
- 0.9 Ounces columbus boil
- 1 Ounce cascade finish
- 1 Ounce cascade dry
Re-pitched Wyeast 1028 from Quincy, M.E.
The hoping was both typical, and simple west coast style. To underline this, I was attempting the palest most unobtrusive malting possible for an IPA.
It looked good, it tasted good. What more can I say?
